The discussion of homecare between family members or loved ones can be a difficult task. To help create positive discussion, mutual understanding and eventually an effective home care plan, one can stick to these four steps:
1. Initiate the Conversation. In most touchy conversations such as the possible need for homecare, the first step is always the most difficult. There’s much anxiety around the thought of the conversation and it can be hard for you or your loved one to fully articulate your thoughts and concerns.
2. Be Vulnerable. In order to eliminate this anxiety and tension, it is very important to let both your guards down. By doing this, it becomes easier to be open and transparent about your feelings and wishes.
3. Be Open and Honest. In this step, be genuine, share your real feelings, questions and concerns with each other. Remember, homecare comes from a place of compassion and the wanting to improve your loved one’s life. Make sure they know that.
4. Create a plan. Figure out what plans should be made regarding care, medication schedules, meal prep, safety, etc. The more detailed the plan, the easier it will be to begin homecare.
